| Alleged DUI Crash Causes Death |

A 48 year old woman from Lawndale is facing possible criminal charges for alleged drunk driving and causing a crash that resulted in death on Sunday May 13, 2012.
The woman was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck in the number four lane, when she suddenly veered to the right and her vehicle struck a tow truck that was stopped on the freeway's right shoulder, where the tow truck driver was assisting a disabled vehicle.
68-year-old Geronimo Hernandez from Compton was in the car with the man; he was thrown out of the car and died at the hospital.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
If authorities determine that the woman was in fact driving drunk, she is likely to be charged with vehicular manslaughter which can result in up to 10 years in prison.

| Woman Gets 18 Years For DUI Crash That Caused Death |

Brandi Lynne Holmes, 21, from Southern California, killed Barry Steele, 52, last July when she was driving drunk past closed onramp signs on Route 91. Steele was working for a California Department of Transportation subcontractor.
Holmes pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter and allegations of inflicting great bodily injury and fleeing the scene.
Holmes was sentenced to 18 years on Wednesday March 14, 2012.

| Orange County Woman Sentenced to 6 years in Prison for Vehicular Manslaughter |

On Oct. 15, 2007, an Orange County woman drove onto a sidewalk, hit street signs, and her car began to spin. As her car spun out of control, she hit Jose Barranco-Patino.
Barranco-Patino was riding his bicycle home from work when he was struck by Michelle Nicole Sterns. He suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Orange County Sheriff's Deputies, Stearns had watery, bloodshot eyes, was stumbling and smelled of alcohol. Her blood-alcohol level was 0.20%.
Stearns pleaded guilty in March to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She was sentenced Friday to six years in state prison.

| A 25-Year-Old Man Arrested After Hitting A Child While Driving Under the Influence |

A 25 year old man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he struck and killed a 5 year old child while driving. Robert M. Rivera was traveling west bound on Poplar Place when he hit Christian Antonio Martinez. According to authorities, the boy died at the scene. Rivera stopped after he struck the child and was cooperative during the arrest.

| Man Convicted of Second-Degree Murder After DUI Crash |

Marco Antonio Valencia was found guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving with .08 percent blood-alcohol causing injury, following the 2009 DUI crash that killed 43 year old Joseph Novotny. Valencia, who was on probation for two separate misdemeanor
DUI cases at the time, fled the scene. He was arrested about 90 min later by the California Highway patrol. He will be sentenced May 26th, and is facing up to life in prison.

| Man Struck and Killed by Drunken Driver |

A 42-year-old man was struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver Monday. The 23-year-old suspect lost control of his vehicle and ran into the victim, who was walking on the sidewalk. According to authorities, the suspect continued driving down the street and collided with a brick wall and overturned. He was treated for minor injuries, then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and manslaughter.
